Regional Mexican formats (norteño, banda, corridos tumbados) have massive listenership. Mexico's radio market has historically been dominated by a few large groups, but community and indigenous-language stations are growing.
Canadian content (CanCon) regulations require stations to play a minimum percentage of Canadian artists, which supports domestic music development.

French radio quotas (40% French-language music on generalist stations) have preserved a strong national music identity. France also has excellent jazz and world music radio.
The BBC's free radio services set a global standard. UK community radio and pirate radio heritage have been hugely influential in electronic music and grime.
Italy's 1976 radio deregulation created one of Europe's most fragmented radio markets, with thousands of small local stations. This gives Italian radio a uniquely local, personal character.
The Netherlands has been globally influential in electronic/dance music. Dutch public radio (NPO) operates thematic channels covering pop, classical, world music, and culture.
Spain's autonomous communities each have distinct radio cultures. Catalan and Basque-language stations serve as cultural anchors for those communities.
ASIA
All India Radio (Prasar Bharati) operates one of the world's largest radio networks. Commercial FM has grown rapidly in urban areas since deregulation in 2001.
Japan's community FM stations are a distinctive feature — small, hyper-local stations serving individual towns or neighborhoods. The country also has a deep jazz radio tradition.
Korean radio has adapted to K-Pop's fan culture, with idol-hosted shows and fan request segments. KBS, MBC, and SBS operate the major radio networks.
MIDDLE EAST & AFRICA
